Overview

OVERVIEW

Giving children and adults the necessary education to help to identify dangerous food additives going into everyday bought foods and drinks in Australia.

Many additives are scientifically proven to contribute to ADD, ADHD, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, infertility in females, reduction in sperm count in males, liver, and kidney damage, learning and memory damage in children and adults, depression, anxiety attacks, mood swings, children’s leukaemia, brain damage in children and more.

More than at any other time in our human history, we are being exposed to fake food, synthetic food, and drink additives, including excess sugar, fake sugar (sweeteners), trans-fats made from the unsustainable crop of palm oil. Upon harvesting, this oil is hydrogenated making it an unhealthy cheap oil used in mass food production. This oil is used by food manufacturers to produce poor quality food in take away food outlets in Australia and worldwide. Hydrogenated palm oil is also used in everyday bought foods at the supermarket including breads, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, baby, and children’s foods and more.

Palm oil production reduces natural forests, increases global warming, contributes to ill health, obesity, heart disease and death for many Australians.

So, why should we accept food additives, including palm oil, being used as an ingredient by food and drink manufacturers in our everyday bought foods?

Our children are the leaders and ambassadors of the future, however, if we do not give them the education today, they will have to start the research done so far, again.

We need to change the way we think about the food we buy and ask of food manufacturers, producers and food selling outlets:

  1. How is this food or drink produced?
  2. What are the ingredients in this food or drink? and
  3. Is this food or drink good for me?

I had two small children and had trained as a florist in London before coming to Australia. After the birth of the second child and with child minding fees so high, I knew I couldn’t afford to go back to work as a florist because the wage I would earn would not cover the child-minding payments. So, I decided to upgrade my skills and go to University and TAFE. In the short bursts of attendance at both institutions, I could afford the payments for one child to be minded while the older child went to Primary School.

During my studies, the older child was diagnosed with Juvenile Onset Diabetes. The emotional shock of the news only another parent with this experience can identify with. By the hospital, I was offered further education about the management of diabetes and took the invitation with both hands. That was the start of my research into the quality of the food we eat. I will hastily mention, Juvenile Onset Diabetes has nothing to do with a sugary diet which is often the perception of many. This condition or illness is related to the insulin producing ducts within the pancreas known as the (Islets of Langerhans). simply put, the ducts, after being attacked by a virus. shock to the human system, or hereditary condition, the body can react or go into stress, such circumstances can lead to this condition.

Many years later, and now, as a mum, grandmother, teacher of almost forty years; I have taught in many schools, colleges and at the University of Canberra, Australia, and have taught and been the Head of Psychology at a school in Berkshire, United Kingdom, and am the author of many books, my research and writing into food quality continues.

THE WHY?

Many children and adults miss opportunities in life, it is not because they don’t have the capability of doing or learning something, it is often related to Brain Starvation. So, what is Brain Starvation? When a child or adult does not have the ability to learn new skills or tasks, the behaviour exhibited by the individual may be due to poor nutrition intake. If the quality of the food is depleted, the brain, like all our organs, will go into starvation. The brain for learning needs to have an adequate supply of glucose from good, unadulterated complex carbohydrates. All good quality food contains complex carbohydrates in the form of healthy molecules. All fast, processed, manufactured food has the healthy molecules converted to dead and empty molecules which does not supply the brain the necessary fuel needed by the person to learn new skills or tasks. Without healthy fuel conversion to energy in the human being, the person suffers not only from learning difficulties but in mood swings, outbursts of emotion and tantrums. This is often seen in young children when they have been to a birthday party where they have eaten foods with excess colour, sugar, trans-fats, and food additives. Continuous eating of dead food also leads to severe obesity and further illness, it also leads to brain starvation as is seen in road rage and other angry outbursts in adults.

Food education is a vital component in all learning; to give wellbeing to both the body and brain of every person within Australia, there needs to be a voice louder than the brightly coloured, gimmicky food advertising now seen across all media outlets including social media, television, print, and others.

As we all know, technology is rapidly changing most aspects of our lives. Food technology is advancing at a similar, if not faster, rate. Some food additives are already untraceable, their origins are shady and dubious. Many additives are made from petroleum including 319 tert-Butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), or 405 Propylene glycol alginate, used in yogurt, ice cream, jellies, and other foods.

Science is now telling us that people with healthy immune systems, appear to manage and get over such viruses as Covid. Science is also telling us, that an unhealthy immune system can be created through eating an unhealthy diet as in eating too much junk food which only contributes to ill or poor health in people. This is the WHY?

THE WHO?

My name is Christine Gray, as an author, I write under the name of Christine Thompson-Wells. I am a concerned older Australian, teacher and advocate for change in the way that food is produced, manufactured, and advertised in Australia.

My vision is to create a movement to promote quality education programmes that take children and adults back to a basic understanding of good food which includes identifying good and bad food molecules. Once that knowledge is understood, children and adults will have the ability to make healthy food choices.

Education, as it currently stands, does not include the rich understanding capacity of food molecules and the vital role they play in delivering either healthy or unhealthy food, when eaten, to the human system.

From researching and writing my book, Devils In Our Food, and the subsequent food books after that, the focus is to deliver to schools, colleges and tertiary institutions, quality food education to Australia, and the wider world community.

‘Nearly four in five Australians overindulge in junk food every day, according to research by CSIRO’[1]. Increasing obesity levels, cardiovascular illness, diabetes type 2, in such instances, food education is the missing link.

It is with our social enterprise model that empowers us to move forward to meet the community need which delivers accessible nutritional education packages in the form of online or face-to-face education. This underpins our philosophy that necessitates our continuous research and development of our products to meet community needs that are not met by the market or within the current education package on nutrition within Australia and within many world populations.

From my research so far, food technology is moving forward at an alarming rate, food additive origins are becoming increasingly difficult to locate, as this rate continues, more artificial or synthetic additives will be added to more food and drink products within the food and drink supply chain. If we want healthy grandchildren in thirty, forty, fifty- or sixty-years’ time, we need to act now to bring about Food Quality Accountability from food and drink producers, manufacturers and fast-food outlets in Australia.

Food Quality Accountability is about older Australians taking the responsibility to speak out and against food producers, manufacturers, and fast-food outlets manufacturing poor quality food and drink then sold on to the Australian population.

THE HOW?

The Real Food Lobby, Australia, is an independently owned and operated organisation that works to benefit children and adults in Food Intelligence education. It is owned and operated in Bowral, NSW and aims to take quality food education to schools, colleges and to tertiary institutions within Australia. As the goals are met in Australia, the education programmes and information will be promoted into other countries. This is the HOW?

The challenge

There is a Federal Election due in 2022, and for our voices to be heard, we need to act now. My proposal is to stand as an independent under the banner of the Real Food Lobby, Australia.

To achieve our goal, we need to raise $50,000 to continue raising food additive awareness.

There are several tasks to be completed:

  1. Print banner and flyers to give out to interested citizens
  2. Book venue locations in accordance with Council regulations
  3. Attend and meet other concerned people at the nominated venues
  4. Gain one hundred signatures, once this is done
  5. Pay nomination deposit of two thousand dollars to the Australian Electoral Commission
  6. Submit nomination to the Australian Electoral Officer (AEO).

When the above tasks are met:

  1. Formulate a team of like-minded people to meet the outlined goals
  1. Launch an active campaign that brings the topic of food additives into the Headlines of all major media channels including social media, radio, television, print and other media outlets
  1. To give talks to concerned, active groups:
  • Older Women’s Network, Australia
  • YWCA
  • P & C committees at schools, high schools, and colleges
  • Concerned Mums’ Groups and related organisations
  • National Council for Women and other concerned groups
  • Campaign talks at the National Press Club and like venues.
  • We accept any donation towards the cause. Any extra funds will go towards establishing and running a small office, developing further educational programmes as in money education and other life-skill building education for children and young adults.
  • With a donation of $150.00 you will receive a complete copy of Devils In Our Food
