And on a separate note, did you know that in Australia 1 in 4 women and up to 36% of children will experience family violence?
These statistics are awful and unacceptable. Imagine if we could tackle these two problems at the same time?
That’s where Rock Bottom Nappies comes in. We’re on a mission to make the world less crappy for families; the environment and survivors of family violence.
Rock Bottom Nappies offers parents an alternative to cloth nappies and big supermarket brands with a monthly subscription box of biodegradable bamboo nappies delivered straight to your door. This means your valuable time as a parent isn’t spent in the supermarket aisle choosing nappies or lugging them home; instead each month we will send you the nappies you need automatically. And for each subscription, each month we will donate one pack of our nappies to survivors of family violence.
ABOUT OUR NAPPIES
Unlike conventional nappies that will live in landfills for 150 years, our nappies are made out of sustainable bamboo and will breakdown in a home compost in 90 days. Here are some impressive results from our most recent biodegradation test.
On day 1 we cut our nappy up into smaller pieces and placed it in compost. After 45 days our nappies had broken down 46.8% and by day 75 our nappy had biodegraded by 60.5%. Our nappies aren’t just great for the environment, they are amazing quality which means you’ll be dealing with less mess! By choosing our nappies, parents no longer have to compromise between choosing eco products and effective products. Our nappies are both kind on the environment and great quality.
Our nappies rise high up the back and belly and have stretchy leg cuffs to help avoid nappy blowouts, our Velcro straps are super strong meaning the nappy won’t come undone and a wetness indicator will let you know when it’s time for a change.
Most importantly our nappies are super absorbent and can hold up to a litre in fluid. Watch our project video to see for yourself! Our bamboo nappies are gentle on sensitive skin and our wood pulp core means that the nappy will draw the moisture away from baby’s skin quickly to help avoid nasty nappy rash. Our nappies are available in 4 sizes and will suit babies from newborn until they are toilet trained. In the image below, our Chief Nappy Tester(my 3 month old baby) models our nappies.
But it’s not enough that our nappies are amazing quality and biodegradable because right now the world needs more good people doing good things. And that’s where you come in.
It wasn’t too long ago that I found myself with my 2 year old daughter at a family violence crisis centre. With nothing to our name we were confronted by having to start from scratch and build a safe home. Nappies and other basics were the last thing on my mind, but without the generosity of the centre we would have gone without these basics that many take for granted. Now, on the other side of that awful time in my life, I want to help other women in any way that I can.
Once launched, Rock Bottom nappies will donate one pack of nappies each month for every subscription we sell. Over the course of one year, thats 480 nappies per subscription and our goal is to donate 45,000 nappies per year!
