Dating apps, clubs, workplaces, or our own home can all be environments where women can suffer harassment and assault. This is not okay. Rape Culture must be eradicated.
FILM CONCEPT
Imagine to join a new social platform, Mingler, you are required to be psychologically tested to ensure you aren’t a predator.
Members have access to a safe online space and exclusive bars and clubs, only filled with respectful people.
Your simulation testing will be formed from ALL the data on the web collected about you. Your desires are tested. Your openness to change is tested. Will you respect those around you and join Mingler? Or will you fail and face peculiar dire consequences?
This film explores this by following the journey of Brody, your typical “nice-guy,” in his attempt to join Mingler. Will he pass?
HOW THIS PROJECT CAME ABOUT
One day, all of my despair and fury had built to a point where I felt I was going to explode from the incidents I and countless women around me had experienced. And explode I did, by pouring my heart into a story I felt I needed to share with the world. I wrote Mingler: a sci-fi, dark comedy short film commenting on rape culture and how it has manifested in society.
WHERE IT IS HAPPENING AND WHO WE ARE
Located in Perth, Western Australia, I have collated a talented ground of emerging filmmakers and actors who will create a great quality short film through my production company, Film Ninja. The crew is predominantly women, including the Producers, Director/Writer, DoP and Editor. Having women at every level possible is immensely important and powerful for the story and its authenticity.
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
We are an independent film and unfortunately, we haven’t been eligible for much funding options in Australia. We have raised a small proportion of our end goal of $10,000 dollars for our budget and are hoping you can assist us in reaching the rest. Our top priority at the moment is being able to afford all the equipment we need to hire.
WHEN IT WILL BE COMPLETED AND WHAT IT WILL BE USED FOR
Filming in February, we aim to have this project completed by June this year (2022). We will enter the film into festivals and then onto a public platform to urge as many people as possible to change if they recognise themselves as having predatory behaviour and advocate for survivors. I will be offering this film to high schools as an educational tool.

Our catering options are very slim at the moment. We would love to be able to offer our cast and crew top quality food from a caterer/store to save our already sleep deprived producers from having to cook through every night before each shoot.

Some of our locations have costly parking fees that currently will have to be covered by the crew and cast themselves who are volunteering their time to create this film. It would be amazing to be able to cover this cost for them.
