Every body is different. So why is our skincare all the same? There shouldn’t be such a thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes what’s effective. That’s why at i.Am Skincare, we customise.

Every. Single. Bottle.

Our tech-powered solution delivers tailored facial oils and serums based on your specific skin type. Tell us about your skin type, goal, and preferences, and our algorithm will determine the right ingredients for your skin. You’ll receive a trio of three elixirs designed for a complete skincare solution when your face is clean and dry:

1. A serum to use in the morning,
2. A serum to use in the evening, and
3. A moisturising oil to use after each serum application.

Each trio is customised with Australian native ingredients, and every bottle is embossed with the first initial of your name. Every person is unique, and so your skincare should be too.

Traditional skincare companies use a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to skincare where options have always been limited to ‘dry’, ‘normal’ and ‘oily’. We believe there’s more to it than that.

We founded i.Am Skincare to take a stand, and to create unique products for unique people that celebrate the differences of our diverse population instead of hiding them or ignoring them.

Our tech-powered customisation service brings skincare to the 21st century, using an algorithm to learn about what you need most before formulating customised skincare products tailored to your skin. Become part of our journey to smarter skincare with our first product range: the i.Am Skincare customisable face oils and serums.

Our digital customisation platform lets you enter details about your allergies, skin type, lifestyle and skin goals and our customisation algorithm uses those details to identify the best ingredients for your needs and formulates two bespoke facial serums and a moisturising oil designed specifically for you. Expect our decadent face serums and oils to feel luxurious, hydrating and nourishing, and easily absorbed by the skin.

The Australian Skincare Industry

We believe there’s currently a major gap in the Australian market in providing truly customised, Aussie-made luxury skincare. This gap does not adequately cater for our diverse population, with people of all races, colours, genders and varying lifestyle requirements. As a consequence, people spend time and effort on days of research, trial-and-error and, ultimately, wasted products.

We know that people are unhappy with their skincare. Some of the largest skincare players in the Australian market have Net Promoter Scores as low as 16 (that’s out of 100!), which indicates just how unlikely their customers would be to recommend their products to a friend.

Co-founder, Rena, believes this dissatisfaction in existing skincare options is a result of large brands trying to deliver too much across too many product offerings, and also out-dated and out-of-touch branding.

“As a marketer of 10+ years, I spend a lot of time on digital and socials. Scrolling the feeds every day takes a mental toll, past photo after photo and ad after ad of people applying product to flawless, glassy, eternally youthful skin. That’s not me. That’s not so many of the women I know.

“I’d love to see world where we could just stop trying to be this photoshopped idea of perfect, and just be exactly who we are – me with with the dark under-eye circles I was born with, or with beautiful wrinkles creases in the corners of our eyes, the little birthmarks that make us who we are, or the little scars that no skincare can promise to take away.

“What if that was okay? What if we approached skincare with the same thought and consideration that we approached other aspects of our health? And in the same way we might take our vitamins in the morning or eat our greens, we used clean, natural, and science-driven skincare that made us feel healthy and whole”.

We Are A Social Enterprise

 

I.Am Skincare is a social enterprise founded by two ethnically diverse female leaders, Cherry and Rena. We’re both deeply passionate about building a business that has the capacity to make lasting impact. We are imperfect, flawed, and driven feminists who want to stand up and support the diverse women around us.

More than just a brand, we aim to build a community of female mentors and mentees, thought leaders, world shakers… perhaps, history makers!

Because when 70% of girls feel more confident about their futures after hearing from women role models, we know that the the world needs to stand up and pay more attention. Rena says on in-house consulting in the tech industry,

“With a staff of around 50 people, there were more men called ‘Alex’ in the business than there were women. Great guys, great business, great Alex’s, but that’s not the point. I left the tech industry altogether because I didn’t feel like I belonged, and I didn’t think I’d be able to find a place for myself there that I’d feel comfortable in. I felt the absence of female role models deeply. Now that I’ve grown in my career and have this incredible opportunity to co-found my own business, I’m determined to use this platform to celebrate the unique stories of women who are fulfilling their purpose, and who have the capacity to act as role models and empower girls to do the same”.

Our dreams at i.Am Skincare are big and our goals include registering as a B-Corp, and partnering with charity initiatives to create, support and promote diverse and inclusive workplaces where opportunities in entrepreneurship and leadership exist for everyone.

Where Are We Now and
What Will This Funding Enable?

 

i.Am Skincare has been a labour of love, and we’ve been working behind the scenes since July 2020 to complete our initial proof of concept, and to product test ingredients and formulations side-by-side with trusted cosmetic chemists and dermatologists. We have developed a prototype for our skin quiz and underlying algorithm, and are currently developing an early-stage pilot to roll out and test our technology.

Reaching our crowdfunding goal and receiving LIFTWomen grant funding would enable us to launch our MVP and bring our pilot go-to market strategy to life. We have a small team of developers ready to get started right away, and our digital marketing campaigns are ready to go. We only require paid media investment to begin.

Should we raise our stretch goals, we would have the capacity to hire a Chief Science Officer to oversee our product formulations, and to expand our ingredient offerings. Reaching our stretch goal would also enable us to explore B2B marketing offerings.

Our second stretch goal after scale up is to work with B2B channels and find businesses through we can sell our products long terms and broaden our customer base. With each business, we can grow our portfolio and out more weight to the I.Am brand.
