Brave Psychology
Psychological therapy practice for kids, teens, new and seasoned parents
Brave Psychology, founded by Bonnie Gordon and Alysha Fameli, was opened in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it became evident that children’s mental health was significantly struggling due to the pressures of isolation. We see children and adolescents of all abilities and neurodiversities, as well as providing support for new and seasoned parents. From here, a warm, safe and inviting space was created. Our hope is to expand our practice, develop a multidisciplinary team and reduce our 6 month waitlist by hiring early career psychologists. We hope to develop programs that allow more children to receive access to cost-effective, timely mental health support while also fostering belonging, connection and social inclusion.
Our goals are three-fold:
Develop a dynamic, engaging and interactive therapy space with access to a multi-disciplinary team (currently in the works!)
Provide more services to more children and parents including one-on-one therapy, group programs and social inclusion programs
Provide supportive, fairly-paid and enriching internship programs for Provisional Psychologists in the early phases of their careers
Why crowd-funding?Â
As a two-woman show, with families of our own, our aim of growing our business is primarily to develop a social enterprise: a psychology service that provides timely support to kids and families and also offers a supportive and fairly paid work environment for new and provisional psychologists. Given that we do not have a product to sell, and our primary aims are ones of social profit, funding our dream has been tricky. We have our wheels in motion and need some financial backing to make our dream a reality.

Psychology practices are not provided incentives or tax breaks like other health practices. Provisional psychologists are not able to claim medicare rebates, despite being supervised and highly trained. Part of our dream is to provide sustainable, enriching and fairly paid internships for provisional psychologists that allow our service to support more children and also allows provisional psychologists an opportunity to enter the workforce in a fairly paid and supported position.
