About the Founder & Brand

Hi my name is Grace and I’m the founder of Curlster,

My passion for natural hair started at home with my nieces. They used to dread dealing with their big, beautiful curls, feeling overwhelmed on how to take care of it. This was due to lack of product for natural curly hair in Australia & coming from a Pacific Island background it has been a struggle. Although everything changed when we started researching simple tips and tricks on how to look after natural hair. Once shown and educated on the simple hacks they have grown to love their natural hair and that’s how Curlster was born (Curl Sister) after my 2 nieces who are sisters.
This brand is built around celebrating the beauty of natural hair and empowering curly sisters in Australia through not only providing the products but also making it easier to take care of it.
Our very first product, the Curlster backless cap (although not a new concept) makes styling easy while leaving room for your curls to shine. It’s the perfect accessory to wear your hair your way, whether you’re running errands, hitting the gym, or just having a good/bad hair day!
As I build this business, I’m excited to continue adding more hair care products designed to make natural hair routines fun, time-efficient, and, most importantly, joyful. Natural hair care doesn’t have to be boring, at Curlster, we’re all about celebrating your curls and having fun with it!

What We Discovered
Natural-haired women in Australia struggle to find headwear that accommodate and showcase their curls while providing protection. Due to Australia being a diverse nation we are finding out that there’s a rise in population of our women and young girls who have naturally coarse, kinky, coily curls trying to find ways to make their hair life easier and more enjoyable. Most traditional and common headwear; the caps either flatten curls or fail to protect the hair’s natural texture. So most rarely feel the need to find ways to protect or they just haven’t found a headwear that’s easy to wear that has all the key components on taking care of their curls while still being stylish. There’s a demand for products that cater specifically to the needs of the curly-haired community, allowing them to express their individuality without sacrificing style or hair health but most haven’t discovered what works.

Our Answer
Curlster backless caps. Our caps allow curly-haired women to show their gorgeous mane without too much effort. Where our elastic satin scrunchie closure provides adjustability with ease without compromising their hair style while offering protection with the satin inner lining from the elements. This ensures their curls remain healthy and beautiful. Although it’s not a new concept we aim to be the Aussie brand that’s known for the backless cap and provide a product to all the curl sisters in Australia that they can rock a cap and their hair at the same time. We want Curlster to not just be about accessories and hair care products but also creating a space for Australian curly sisters to embrace their natural hair and express themselves through stylish, innovative ways.

Projection Launch Date
While we aimed to launch by Christmas, being that the holiday season is fast approaching and according to our supplier there’s 30-day production timeline given the quantity, there may be a delay. Therefore, we’ve decided to move our product launch within the first quarter of 2025 to give us enough time to marketing, organising packaging, establishing an online presence and finding collaborators in the curly hair community of Australia.
