Most of our grass roots sporting clubs are run by volunteers and their involvement is critical for the sustainability of many local sporting communities.

Increasingly, all sporting organisations are being held accountable for their governance. No longer is a sport’s success determined only by the on-field contest. The business of sport is competitive, technical and intense.

Sports Governance was founded by Ilona Meyer.

Ilona is a current practising lawyer and governance expert. She has identified a growing need to assist sporting organisations with their governance requirements and has combined her skills and experiences to create and establish Sports Governance.

​Ilona is uniquely placed to assist sporting organisations meet their governance and dispute resolution needs. She has spent over 20 years working as a corporate lawyer and a number of years involved with publicly listed and private company boards as well as State and National Sporting Organisations.

​Ilona holds a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Laws and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is the Chair of Hoxton Industries Limited, Chair of Karting (New South Wales) Inc and is a current Director and Chair of the Governance Committee of Disability Sports Australia.

​Ilona was a Finalist in the Lawyers Weekly – Australian General Counsel of the Year – Women in Law Awards in 2017 and led the legal teams of ResMed Limited and Ruralco Holdings Limited, which both were Finalists of In-House Legal Team of the Year in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

​Ilona is a passionate advocate for transparency, accountability and the social responsibility of sporting organisations. She is also equally passionate in promoting diversity in sport.
