Overview

Chocolate On Purpose™ is the first Indigenous chocolate business in Australia.
We create delicious chocolate experiences infused with ancient wisdom via botanicals that have long been used by our First Nations People, such as Daalgaal (Illawarra Plum) and Gulalung (Finger Lime). With our chocolates, you reach total immersion in the smells, flavours, colours and ancient wisdom of Indigenous Australia.
We’re also delivering real industry impact by empowering Indigenous Australian & World Cacao Farmers to greater participation in supply chains and contributing to Reconciliation in Australia through storytelling with our chocolate.
Our chocolate is sustainably and ethically grown, palm oil-free and sourced from enterprises invested in eradicating adult and child slavery.

Hello! I’m Fiona, a proud Wiradjuri woman and founder of Australia’s first Indigenous chocolate company, Chocolate On Purpose™.

I combine premium, gourmet chocolate with Australian native botanicals to create my ‘Bush Food Chocolate’ range. Through the deliciousness of these flavours, I share the traditional use of the botanicals to deepen respect for ancient Indigenous wisdom and culture.
I am a Marramaldhaany (Creator), currently learning Wiradjuri Language and weaving this into storytelling with chocolate.

My story’s been one of splintered family and loss of identity.
When my Great Grandfather started a family, he decided walking away from the mission was the only way to create a life with better outcomes and keep his children safe. But the reality was he walked into a strictly regulated white world, where safety depended on total disconnection from the world of his kin.
My grandfather was raised by this man, broken by the tragic decision he felt was his only choice. My father’s sadness and anger were drowned by alcohol. Intergenerational trauma was very real for my family.

But I want to take you on a journey…
When Indigenous people engage in the same tasks as their ancestors… it triggers a healing response…. and that’s what happens for me.
Just as my ancestors did, I discovered the healing power and traditional cultural importance of Australian native botanicals in my journey with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
I came to realise that flowers and leaves are our food and medicine and I embarked on a mission to find a “new” way to share the healing properties of botanicals.

I made it my business to re-connect with my Culture and find a way to share this because it’s important.
My vehicle to achieve this? Chocolate 😊

Through Chocolate On Purpose™, I hope to create a place where:
- my Indigenous brothers and sisters can reclaim splintered parts caused from generational trauma and find healing and reconnection and
- where non-Indigenous Australians can learn from truth-telling about the colonial history of Australia and deepen respect for Indigenous Culture to reach Reconciliation & healing.

I want to give back and promote respect and self-determination for my people.
To be a disruptor and lead through the actions of social responsibility.

My vision is to share and preserve Indigenous culture and deepen respect for our wisdom and traditions through storytelling with ‘bush food’ and chocolate flavour combinations.
In addition, when Indigenous people engage in the same tasks as their ancestors, it also triggers a healing response. Chocolate On Purpose™ is our way of sharing the healing power of Australian native flowers and leaves with the wider community.

I want to create a business centred in the mission to provide connection to Culture, for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
A place of total immersion in the smells, flavours, colours and ancient wisdom of Indigenous Australia… shared through storytelling with chocolate.
A place where my Indigenous brothers & sisters can reclaim splintered parts caused from generational trauma and find healing & re-connection.
A place where non-Indigenous Australians can learn from truth-telling about the colonial history of Australia and deepen respect for Indigenous Culture to reach Reconciliation & healing.
This “Connect to Indigenous Culture through Storytelling with Chocolate” Project will kick-start me on the journey to achieving this.
I am raising $19,500 with two steps to my goal:
Milestone 1: $5,000- Help me purchase a Chocolate Tempering Machine
I need automation to increase my production to keep up with demand. For $5,000 this chocolate tempering machine would increase my production by 25%.
This in turn enables me to increase my buy of fruit from an Indigenous farmer by 10kg per production run. This would increase my impact!

Milestone 2: $14,500 – Help me bring a Native Botanical ‘Sensory Garden’ to life
I currently offer an Indigenous Chocolate Tasting Experience and would love to create a native botanical ‘sensory garden’ to deepen that experience for my visitors. This would be a taste and touch experience where children and adults can learn about the botanicals in my chocolate and then touch, taste and enjoy the fruit on the plant. There would also be a beautifully landscaped area where they can sit and continue the immersive journey to healing.

This would enable me to extend my Indigenous Chocolate Tasting Experience into a complete immersive experience, which will layer the learnings and magnify the impact of my business.

I would feel much Yindyamarra (Wiradjuri for gratitude) if you would assist me to reach my Goals, and I’ve put together some rewards to thank you for your kind investment.
